Square Meaters Stud

Kelkette Nelson Y69

Rainbow Estate Xanadu
Kelkette Park had always bred 'old fashioned' Murray Grey cattle which were medium framed, early maturing, well muscled, easy care cattle with exceptional doing ability. All desirable traits which were even more obvious during tough times.

Many Murray Grey breeders have gone with the modern trend to breed bigger and not necessarily better cattle but Kelkette Park resisted the trend and was well placed to join the Square Meaters Cattle Association and register 2 bulls and many cows which continue to breed true to the standard and contribute their elite genes to other Studs while maintaining a strong genetic base at Kelkette Park.

All breeding programmes need new blood from time to time and the leasing and subsequent purchase  of outcross Square Meaters bull Rainbow Estate Xanadu from Tony Cairns was a timely step in the ongoing pursuit of breeding superior beef cattle. Tony had shown Rainbow Estate Xanadu to Junior Champion bull at the 2004 Canberra Royal Show prior to his arrival at Kelkette Park and I'm grateful to Tony for making him available to me.

Further to the quest for new blood Ernie Stephenson, principal of Woolaringa Square Meaters Stud, Goulburn NSW agreed to sell the Grand Champion Square Meaters Female at the 2004 Canberra Royal Show, Woolaringa Leane V23A and her heifer calf Woolaringa Leane Z2 to me. Kelkette Park is very proud to own some of this special family and thank Ernie for allowing them to be an ongoing part of this Stud.
